I think it’s fantastic that Plymouth Argyle have ended up with a charismatic manager like Ian Holloway at the helm. For a small side like theirs, I think he’s the ideal man to take them further than they’ve ever gone in the league.
I often find it really disappointing when Championship and other lower league teams opt for the same old boring characters, spouting the same excuses and clichéd rubbish game after game. But having someone entertaining to watch on the sidelines and read in the press, can improve a club’s profile no end. I think Jose Mourinho has already proved this point no end.
Like I say, I don’t think it’s worth underestimating what a character like Holloway adds to a team like Plymouth. With no disrespect to the club, they’re by no means big hitters – even at Championship level and as such aren’t ever likely to attract high calibre players to the club. But a manager’s name can certainly help relieve this and add a new dimension to a club that can prove enticing to potential players and backroom staff alike.
If they keep Holloway in the hotseat, and back him with a decent amount of cash I can see Plymouth Argyle competing for a play-off place in the next couple of seasons. They’re not that far off as we speak and maybe they can mount a late challenge, but I suspect that the teams above them have better squads at present. I don’t think any of them however, have a manager quite like Ian Holloway.
